About

It is undoubtedly perpetual exploration that best defines Chloé Loneiriant’s approach. At odds with a trend that advocates the affirmation of certainties and clearly defined identities, it is rather her questions that guide her musical projects. These are above all explorations of a facet of her human experience, supported by the intuition that the journey is more important than the destination. At the heart of her artistic research is the desire to embody multiple sensibilities towards a personal point of convergence.

Through her concerts, she seeks to reach and open up states of mind other than those imposed by modern daily life, and to provide access to other mentalities and ways of experiencing the world.

Chloé Loneiriant finds fulfilment in artistic direction as well as in accompanying roles in the service of visions other than her own. Her history, rooted in interculturality from birth, has endowed her with great adaptability and versatility.

JOURNEY

Chloé Loneiriant is one of the few musicians in the world to have been professionally trained in two musical traditions as different as European classical music and North Indian classical music. Her musical bilingualism is enriched by her vocal and instrumental approach to these traditions.

After completing her higher education in classical flute in Canada and England (University of Montreal, University of Leeds), she spent eight years in India immersing herself in the culture of her second art. A resident of Hariprasad Chaurasia’s school for several years, she learned from him in the oral Master-Disciple tradition. Following these years, she completed a Master’s degree in bansuri flute (SNDT College, Pune). At the same time, she trained in Khyal singing (Tulika Gosh, Diploma from the University of Mumbai) and then in Dhrupad singing (Nirmalya Dey).

AWARDS & TEACHING

Her skills have been recognised with several merit scholarships (Canada Council for the Arts, Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute) and she is increasingly in demand by educational and research institutions such as FAMDT, Fondation Royaumont, ISDAT, CNSMDL and CIMM.

Since 2022, she has been teaching Indian instrumental and vocal music at the Conservatoire de Montpellier (Cité des Arts).

Experiences

As a performer, she has experienced the musical ecosystems of both her native Canada and various regions of India. She has collaborated with a multitude of international artists. Trained throughout her life in several styles of classical and traditional dance, as well as acting, she has been sought after as a musician to work on multidisciplinary creations with Odissi (classical Indian dance) and contemporary dancers. She has been a studio musician for commissions as well as for the recording of an album of her own Indo-Pop-Classical compositions, ‘Visages’, recorded in the laboratory city of Auroville where she lived for three years.

Now based in France and mother of three children, she pursues research, composition and performance projects guided by a desire for ethical consistency with her feminist, social and environmental achievements.
